I’ve always had this fantasy of myself lying on a beach somewhere in a hammock underneath a couple of palm trees. I’m getting nicely drunk on Pina Coladas and listening to soothing music playing in the background. I pick up my phone and check into my Paypal account….Ooh lovely, I made a million dollars again today. Better order another drink.

A beautiful dream, right?

Is it possible to build a meaningful career, travel the world AND be a great mother?

I read this quote while trawling the internet one day:

Are you in control of your financial destiny? Lessons from Filipino mothers

“Ma’am, can you I talk with you for a minute please?”

This was the beginning of a conversation with our Filipino babysitter a few weeks ago. Her husband’s motorbike had broken down. He operates a tricycle service which is basically a capsule hooked up to a motorbike that operates as a budget taxi. With his bike out of action, half of their income was suddenly gone. To make matters worse, we were moving to another city shortly so she was going to be out of a job too.
